How to use the brick calculator

This calculator helps you estimate how many bricks (pcs) and how much mortar (m³) are needed to build a wall. It’s useful for workers, foremen, and DIY builders.

Step by step

1) Choose a modeWall (L×H) or Area (m²).

2) Enter openings area (windows/doors) if needed — it will be subtracted.

3) Select wall thickness — ½, 1, 1½ or 2 bricks (or enter manually).

4) Choose brick size — a preset or custom dimensions (mm).

5) Set joint thickness — usually 10 mm.

6) Click “Calculate” — you’ll get bricks, mortar, a table, and a chart.

What the abbreviations mean

How the calculator works

First, it calculates the net masonry area (wall area minus openings), then the wall volume = area × thickness. Next, it estimates brick count using a “module” (brick + joint) and mortar volume:

mortar ≈ wall volume − solid brick volume

This is an estimate for planning. For real projects, add 5–10% extra.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this calculation?

It’s a practical estimate. Real usage depends on workmanship, cutting waste, wall irregularities, and joint thickness.

Why should I add extra bricks?

Some bricks break or are cut. Builders usually add +5–10%.

Does it account for windows and doors?

Yes. Enter the total openings area (m²) — it will be subtracted automatically.

Why is mortar volume so large?

Mortar fills all joints between bricks. Thicker joints mean more mortar.

Can I use custom brick sizes?

Yes. Select “Enter manually” and input your brick dimensions in mm.
